I HATE CELINE DION

This is objective, not subjective. Freedom of speech is engrained in code and often mistaken as gospel; it's all subjective. Think for a moment that a sweeping exclamation of hate against an artist was undisputedly objective. Does the hatred stem from a personal vendeta against the artist themselves, a desperate struggle for personal identity or a retalliation against an ethereal force? Whatever force elicits this hatred, it is a monolithic force that exposes negative emotion to the boiling point of consumption of the conscious beign.

This film was created for the creative coursework unit of a Film Studies AS course, shot within a single day and edited, mixed & mastered on Sony Vegas Pro 11.

This film marked a point where I focused more attention on the soundtracks to my films, as I started to become aware of the importance of ambient sound and the potential of creating a richer dieresis for the films I create. Heavy feedback and distorted guitars were recorded to bring an element of imminent dread alongside the Celine Dion tracks.

The visual style of the film was influenced by classic horror thrillers like The Exorcist, the dream sequence of which was a direct influence on the one seen in this short film, and the slow and silent nature of David Lynch's short films such as The Alphabet. The biggest visual effect of the film, the TV static encompassing the room around the protagonist was achieved through simple masking techniques. The film received an A grade and helped to progress my video & sound editing, as well as filming techniques, in a direction for future projects to become more ambitious and elaborate.
